So this. Again. April was a HUGE fail. Maybe I’ll get my act together in May. (Stop snickering. I realize it’s not likely.)

Unfortunately, I didn’t even begin the March prompts. I’d like to think I can do them in April or maybe May. We were suppose to set a plan forward for the month to bring us closer to our goals. This may have involved too much conscience planning for me. I mentioned last month that I have a problem seeing the finished product. I work best by adding a bit here, changing a bit there, moving this over there. When I plan too much things tend to fall apart. Or, I rebel against myself and almost refuse to do it. Ridiculous! I know, I know. I work better in the moment. So I guess that’s why I shied away from this month’s prompt.

However, that is not to say I didn’t do anything with my word in mind. I completed February’s prompt of images that remind me of flourish. Some are projects I completed in February and some are images that remind me of the word.

Other things I’ve done this month toward embracing flourish are work on our oldest boys’ room. My husband and I did some reorganization and planning to really put their room together. We asked for input from them but honestly, I think they don’t really care. Still, we have a plan in place, I’ve shopped for some of the supplies (This involved a trip to Ikea which is so far away I planned a whole weekend around it. This became a mini girls’ weekend with three of my closest friends. IT WAS LOVELY. Wish I could do it more often!) still need to get the paint and patch the walls before the Ikea purchases get put together. I’m hoping April is the month to actually DO the room. This may be a problem since April is full of Spring sports, scouting trips, and Spring break (where the whole family is going to Myrtle Beach to CHAPERONE the boys’ varsity baseball team which the oldest plays on). All that with full time work and regular stuff like laundry and cooking dinners is a bit much. We shall see how that all pans out.

With the warm weather I’ve been surveying my domain. Or rather, my yard. Taking stock. I would say I even did a little yard work but mostly I forced the children to do the yard work. Either way, the garden beds are raked out and the sticks – my God the sticks! – are picked up. Now to mulch – where does all the mulch go??? I need to plant tulips this fall and I’d like to convince the husband to get out the chainsaw and cut up all the branches in the clearing to a manageable size. I have a dream of raking a bit of the woods but I’m thinking this will not be the year that happens.

The Ikea trip has also allowed me to acquire the rest of the materials for my closet project. So that is on the table. Ha! Table! (I bought a tabletop.)

I did a couple smaller projects this month. A jewelry holder that was inspired by about a million-ish (or 7) Pinterest images. (The following are the one I actually made, not the inspiration photos.)

I started a holder for all of my ribbons to go in my craft closet. I’ve been sort of keeping up with the photo a day thing. And by sort of I mean, Not doing it and then doing a whole bunch at one time when I’m  feeling more inspired (or less lazy) and predating them. I’ve also been working on a print for above my bed. That hit a snag so it’s an ongoing thing at this point.

Oh, I almost forgot! I did something unthinkable. Really, this is HUGE for me. I bought a sewing machine. A very basic sewing machine. Now why would anyone think this is so odd? See, I have this thing. If I’m in a room with a sewing machine, I do not even have to touch it, I REPEAT: I DO NOT HAVE TO TOUCH IT, but as soon as I enter the room the thing goes haywire. The thread gets messed up or the fabric bunches or SOMETHING. I have tested this theory many times. It’s not a fluke. Me and sewing machines don’t get along. In fact, I just gave one away last year right before we moved. It had been my mom’s and it hated me. That’s the only reason I can imagine why it did the things it did.

So now you’re asking why. WHY heidi would you spend money on something that will break as soon as you open the box? Obviously I’m a freak, a glutton for punishment, a wastrel who just tosses money out the window. There is no other excuse. Or maybe I had a new theory that if I started with something good, sturdy, basic and NEW – with no one else’s energy associated with it, I could learn to use it. Maybe I could trick it into thinking that I’m okay. As long as no one else touches it. Have I mentioned I’m a bit of a freak? It’s almost killing my 13 y/o that I won’t let him try it.

So I opened it. I even used it. And? It worked! No problems whatsoever. This is not to say I’m cured. Or to say that it won’t break in the future. It is just to say that I made some VERY BASIC envelope pillow covers for some inserts I bought for the new couch. And they worked. And no, they are not perfect but they look GOOD. YAY me.

So those were my adventures for March. I guess it looks like I flourished even if I didn’t write it down first. Can’t wait to find out what the prompts are for April!
